We are excited to announce the SheTech Student Mini-Workshop Competition sponsored by Nexio! This is an opportunity for students to create and submit their own mini-workshops that will be highlighted during the SheTech Virtual Summit, and compete for cash and prizes!
All submissions due by April 24 at 11:59pm. Read more below for guidelines, official rules, and ideas to get started. The winning workshops will be announced during the SheTech Virtual Summit.
How to Participate:
- Create a 3-5 min video where you walk through how to do a STEM activity and the related STEM principles so that viewers could recreate the activity at home
- Follows the judging criteria (outlined below)
- Submit the video using the button above
Sample Mini-Workshop Outline (and what the judges will judge the workshop on)
- Introduce the presenters
- Say the title of the mini-workshop
- Explain what viewers will learn or the problem you are solving
- Show and explain the supplies needed for others to do the activity at home
- Perform the STEM activity and explain the related STEM principles
- Summarize the outcome
- Talk about how your activity applies to the real world
- Inspire the viewers to try it
Additional Judging Criteria:
- You can use existing STEM resources to help you, such as websites or kits, as long as you give them credit and attribute properly
- Judges will take into consideration how strongly each activity is rooted in STEM principles, and how strongly you can apply it to the real world

- Can I submit a workshop with other students?
- Yes, you can create a mini-workshop with another student, a small group or an entire school club—just make sure you follow social distancing best practices when you create it and that everyone is involved.
- Who will judge the competition?
- Judges will be industry experts from Women Tech Council, Amazon and CMS.
- What are the prizes for the winning mini workshops?
- Each winning team will receive $100 and an Amazon Echo Dot.
- Who will receive prizes?
- 5 mini workshops will be selected as winners in the following 5 categories:
- Best in science
- Best in technology
- Best in engineering
- Best in math
- Best overall
- Who will get to see the mini workshops?
- Industry judges will review all mini workshops. The 5 winning workshops will be shared on our website.
- How should I structure my video?
- Here’s a sample outline you could follow for your video to ensure it includes all judging points:

- There are hundreds of different topics and activities that could make a great mini workshop. Here are a few examples of activities that we’ve used in promoting SheTech that could be built into mini workshops.
